Mechanical Engineer
Job Purpose:
The Mechanical Engineer is responsible for leading the mechanical design on a project and may serve as the Engineer of Record. This role involves directing the mechanical team, ensuring coordinated design documentation, and working collaboratively with all project disciplines and external consultants. The Mechanical Engineer may also serve as the Project Manager, overseeing the entire design team.
Key Areas of Expertise:
This position requires general expertise in HVAC load analysis, the design of complete air and hydronic distribution systems, complex HVAC system configurations, plumbing system design, and active participation in construction administration processes.
Duties & Responsibilities:
Key responsibilities include preparing mechanical design documents that comply with company standards, monitoring project progress and ensuring deadlines are met, and coordinating document completion for QA/QC review. The Mechanical Engineer is also responsible for weekly staffing coordination with the Project Manager or Senior Mechanical Engineer, reviewing and adjusting mechanical budget hours as needed, and mentoring junior staff. Additionally, this role includes overseeing or participating in construction administration duties such as submittal reviews, pay application evaluations, and attendance at OAC (Owner/Architect/Contractor) meetings.
Qualifications & Continuing Education:
Candidates must be a registered Professional Engineer with approximately 5 to 9 years of experience. Preferred background includes projects in healthcare, education, commercial, federal, and light industrial sectors. Applicants should have strong interpersonal and communication skills and demonstrated leadership ability.
Continuing education is required to maintain professional registration.
Working Conditions:
This position may require occasional night and weekend work to meet critical project deadlines.
Physical Requirements:
Applicants must be able to carry up to 50 pounds of drawings and climb ladders as needed.
