Electrical Engineer
Job Purpose:
The Electrical Engineer is responsible for leading the electrical design on a project and may serve as the Engineer of Record. This position involves directing other electrical staff, managing the documentation of the electrical system, and coordinating with other disciplines and external sub-consultants. The Electrical Engineer may also act as the Project Manager, overseeing the entire design team.
Key Areas of Expertise:
This role requires general expertise in electric load calculation and analysis, lighting and lighting control systems, power distribution for both normal and emergency conditions, and fire alarm systems.
Duties & Responsibilities:
Primary responsibilities include preparing design documents that meet company standards, monitoring project progress to meet deadlines, and ensuring QA/QC reviews are completed on time. The Electrical Engineer will coordinate weekly staffing needs with the Project Manager or Senior Electrical Engineer, review the electrical budget hours, and recommend any necessary adjustments. This role also includes mentoring junior staff, managing manpower in relation to budget and project phases, and overseeing construction administration activities such as reviewing submittals, pay applications, and attending OAC (Owner/Architect/Contractor) meetings.
Qualifications & Continuing Education:
Candidates must be a registered Professional Engineer with approximately 5 to 9 years of experience. Preferred industry experience includes healthcare, education, commercial, federal, and light industrial sectors. Applicants should possess excellent interpersonal and communication skills along with strong leadership capabilities.
Continuing education is required to maintain professional registration.
Working Conditions:
This position may require occasional night and weekend work to meet critical project deadlines.
Physical Requirements:
Applicants must be able to carry up to 50 pounds of drawings and climb ladders as needed.
